The MakeMyFuture training course was held from September 11 to September 15, 2023, in Munich, Germany, and was organized by FabLab München e.V.

Throughout the international training course, a variety of activities and tasks were undertaken to equip participants with knowledge of technologies, techniques, and processes, as well as hands-on experience. The course aimed to foster collaboration and enable the integration of maker-based activities into educational settings.

The programme included:

  • Lectures on 3D, Lasercutter and CNC machines to provide participants with technical information needed to use and integrate these tools into their teaching activities.
  • Workshops on prototyping its own product using 3D and Lasercutter.
  • Visits to local MakerSpaces that link education with industry 4.0.
  • Visit to local VET schools, such as the Staatliche Fachoberschule Haar (FOS), to see how they integrate industry 4.0 into regular lessons.

At the end of the training course, participants acquired skills in the following areas:

  • Integration of Maker-Based Activities: Participants learned how to effectively incorporate maker-based activities into their teaching practices. This encompassed understanding the utilization of 3D printing, Lasercutter, and CNC machines and integrating them into educational content.
  • Resource Allocation: They acquired the ability to efficiently allocate resources, ensuring that tools, software, and machines are used effectively within educational settings.
  • Student Guidance: Participants developed the capacity to guide and support students in using 3D printing, Lasercutter, and CNC machines for practical maker-based projects.
  • Industry 4.0 Connection: They learned how to connect education with Industry 4.0, fostering collaboration with external organisations or institutions for educational purposes.

On the 1st of June, the “Meeting between Companies and Teachers of Computer Science and Communications: Generating synergies and opportunities”, took place in Málaga, organized by
Málaga TechPark, the Teaching Centre of Málaga and the financial entity Caixabank Dualiza.

It was a very enriching meeting between the ecosystem of the main technological companies with presence in Malaga and the Vocational Education and Training (VET) teachers of the public education centres of the province of Malaga, in which the different Training Cycles and Specialisation Courses of the Professional Family of Computer Science and Telecommunications are taught. More than 150 people took part in this activity.

Among the purposes of the meeting, the idea was that teachers should know what companies demand, what kind of profiles and professional skills they are looking for and what positions need to be filled, which could indeed fit perfectly with the skills acquired by VET students.

The aim of the meeting was to involve companies in the training process of VET students, contributing to the generalisation of Dual Vocational Training, as foreseen in the new Spanish regulation, and promoting other complementary training that contributes to improving the employability of students.

The international team of Málaga TechPark was present at the event and spoke about the European project MakemyFuture and the results obtained so far, together with the Institute of Secondary Education Martín de Aldehuela, partner of the project. The MakeMyFuture online training course was also presented. This training initiative will be available in the coming months, to support teachers in implementing educational maker-based modules improving VET students’ digital competences.

The first draft of the MakeMyFuture Modules was produced. The second result of the MakeMyFuture project provides a maker-based training path for VET students aiming to support the achievement of advanced digital competences in line with the Profiles previously identified by the R1 MakeMyFuture Competence Framework.

The partnership mapped the profiles highlighted in the Competence Framework with the technologies and activities used by the Fablabs, in order to select the most relevant profiles that could be implemented with the Making approach in the different partner countries.

The partners selected the following 4 profiles:

Based on this, the training path has been designed, and structured into modules in order to gradually align the learning outcomes of VET students with the advanced digital competences required by Industry 4.0.

The modules have a clear framework describing timing, type of activity, tools and materials needed, steps to be implemented, assessment methodology and skills, knowledge and competences acquired. It combines a knowledge/theoretical component with original hands-on activities based on the main digital technologies used by Fablabs and Industry 4.0 in partner countries (Italy, Spain, Germany, Malta, and Poland).

The first Multiplier Event in Spain was carried out by the Spanish partners of the MakeMyFuture project, IES Martín Aldehuela and Málaga TechPark on the 2nd of December 2022, in the framework of the event of Málaga Mobile Week. The Málaga Mobile Week aimed at encouraging the empowering and digital inclusion of the citizens in their daily lives, through different participatory and free activities, from conferences to workshops, debates, and spaces for reflection. In this way, the event aimed to address the digital gap by promoting digital inclusion and promoting the digital empowerment of citizens.

The multiplier event consisted of face-to-face activities and practical workshops at the Vocational education and training center Martín Aldehuela to present the project and the MakeMyFuture Competence Framework. In this sense, the latest result of the European project MakeMyFuture provided eight profiles needed by Industry 4.0: Additive Manufacturing technician, CNC operations technician, CAD/CAM Designer, IT Communications technician, Data Analyst, IoT Technician, Robot machines technician and Automation technician.

Almost 40 people, mainly teachers and students from the VET center and representatives from other education centers participated in the activity. The main areas of knowledge the students were: electricity, electronics, telecommunications, and computer systems.

The event was indeed a good opportunity to communicate the objectives of the project and to make clear the importance of the selected profiles in Industry 4.0.

The first MakeMyFuture Multiplier Event in Italy was organised by Learnable in cooperation with Assindustria Consulting srl and Polo3 Fano. The event was held on 16 December at Via Tommaso Campanella, no. 1 in Fano and it lasted around 2 hours.

The event was aimed at students of the vocational training course in CAD/CAM technician in the woodworking sector and their teachers. Around 25 participants attended the event.

During the first part of the morning, Learnable presented the context within which the MakeMyFuture project was created, explaining to the participants the methodology based on making, and the need to realign the vocational training system to the requirements of Industry 4.0.
Afterward, Giulio Gabbianelli (Learnable) gave the main information on the project, duration, consortium, aims and expected results.
He then focused on the first project result developed (MakeMyFuture Competence Framework), presenting the content of the document and its aims to the participants.

A QA session was organised to give participants the opportunity to explore the topics of their interest in more depth.
At the end of the event, the project leaflet with all the main information was distributed.

The event was highly appreciated by the students and the teachers, who showed interest in the topic and gained knowledge about the making methodology on which the project is based.
Many of the participants also expressed a willingness to participate in the planned testing phase to help improve the results produced.
